about

I often have hair brained ideas, but then I sometimes have good ideas. One was enlisting the members of Quintron's Weather Warlock to play a show with me in the 9th Ward of New Orleans, LA at the world renowned Saturn Bar while I was there at a professional conference presenting a paper on tungiasis, a debilitating skin disease caused by T. pentrans, a hematophageous flea that burrows into the skin and causes great pain for people in developing countries.

But that is neither here, nor there. I am a doctor and all. Bass duties and booking was taken care of by Mr. Stoo Odom, a long time friend from back when I lived down here, back before I became a doctor, or a musician or a nyatiti player or really anything else.

I'm always tempted to apply more significance to musical projects than necessary, but this one didn't require my myopic music mania that tends to make anything great after a couple of listens. No, this was a night to behold, the perfect night truly.

Kunal Prakesh, Aaron Hill, Stoo Odom, Quintron.... these are all my musical heroes, none like them anywhere else on the planet, and wouldn't it be great if I could do some nyatiti jamz on a stage somewhere while they belted out some otherwordly soundz... and that's exactly what happened.

"Why didn't you ask me to play?" Mr. Q asks. "Because you'd say no but you're here now and you have to play cause that's the only way you'll get in the door." So the Mellotron comes out like a basket of snakes, rounding out the already round nyatiti... which was my plan all along.

So here's a recording, made on the fly and edited some of our live show at the Saturn Bar, Joe Pestilence in attendance, Benni Devine up front, much love everywhere to be found, because I'm fucking old and this stuff makes me feel good and we should all feel good because that's what we're here for.

Who needs anything else? Tributes out to Steve Kenney and Ms. P and Marie Durfan and the Afrodiziacs and the Sleazeball Orchestra and the and all the great people of New Orleans, thank you so much. Love, love, love and snakes and nyatitis and cajun fried rice from next door.

about

Dagoretti Records Ann Arbor, Michigan

"Dagoretti" is the confluence of three large pathways in Nairobi connecting all of Kenya together. It is also the Swahilified pronounciation of "The great." We like to think that we put out great records that connect distant places together.
